A Meta Ads Creative Testing Framework You Can Actually Run

A weekly operating system for testing: what to launch, how to judge it, and when to stop.

Most creative testing fails on operations, not ideas. The team launches irregularly, judges early, changes two things at once, and keeps no record. The framework below is deliberately boring, because boring is what survives a busy quarter.

The slate

  • 2 new concepts — different arguments, not different edits.
  • 4 hook rewrites on the current control.
  • 1 offer or format test.
  • 1 landing module test.
  • Launched the same day each week, every week.

The rules

  1. One variable per test. Same audience, same optimisation event, same destination unless the destination is the variable.
  2. Fixed budget per concept, sized to reach a meaningful number of conversions inside the window.
  3. Fixed evaluation window — typically 5–7 days, matched to your attribution setting.
  4. Pre-written kill rule: at £X spend, if hook rate is below A or CAC above B, it dies.
  5. Winners are promoted into the prospecting campaign; they are not left in the test campaign to scale.

Reading results

Judge in stages. Hook rate diagnoses the opening. Hold rate diagnoses the script. CTR diagnoses the call to action. CVR diagnoses the page and offer. CAC and margin diagnose the business. A concept that fails at one stage tells you exactly which brief to rewrite.

The log

One row per test: date, hypothesis, variable, spend, hook rate, CAC, decision. Review the log monthly and write down the three things you now believe that you didn't a month ago. That is the deliverable — the winning ad is just the by-product.

Expected yield

One in five to seven concepts beats control. At two concepts a week that's roughly one to two new winners a month, which is enough to keep an account growing.
